TAMPA Two people were forced from their home after a fire broke out in their two-story home, Tampa fire officials said.
Firefighters saw smoke and flames upon arriving at the home at 7403 N. Huntley Ave. at about 9:45 p.m. Friday, the fire rescue department reported. The fire was under control in about 10 minutes.
A man and woman were upstairs when the fire started. The man told investigators he came downstairs to find the couch on fire. The two escaped without injury and the American Red Cross was helping them to find temporary shelter.
The Tampa Fire Marshals Office said the cause of the fire is suspicious and the investigation was continuing. Damage to the home was estimated at $35,000.
The names of the man and woman were not available.
