Father Finds Son Facedown In Water During Fishing Trip

BRADENTON An Alachua man found his son floating facedown this morning while they were fishing near the south Sunshine Skyway fishing pier, Manatee County officials said.

Lewis Byrd, 53, and his sons Joshua and James were wading just off shore about 8:45 a.m. when Byrd looked over and saw that Joshua was facedown in the water, deputies said. Byrd yelled for a bystander to call for help while he and his son dragged Joshua to shore and started CPR.

Joshua, whose age was not available, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center. His condition wasn't available.
