Published: August 30, 2008

Plant quarterback Aaron Murray picked up where he left off last season, putting up big numbers and leading his team to victory, but this time with help from a different cast of supporting characters.

In three quarters, Murray threw for 296 yards and five touchdowns in Plant's victory at Dad's Stadium. He also rushed for 108 yards.

Senior tight end Orson Charles (five receptions for 101 yards) caught three of those touchdowns. Charles also added a sack for an 8-yard loss. Senior wideout Justin Rudolph (four receptions, 72 yards) caught the other two touchdowns.

Wharton standout safety Jairus Jones scored the Wildcats' lone touchdown. He also intercepted a pass by Plant backup quarterback Phillip Ely.

The Panthers were without starting wide receiver Allen Sampson (jaw) and starting linebacker Mike Mirabella (shoulder sprain). Both were held out as a precaution, but Coach Robert Weiner said they are expected to play in Friday night's regular-season opener against Armwood.
