HOLIDAY - Come Tuesday, boaters will need cash to use the launching ramp at Anclote River Park.
Boaters will be able to purchase up to seven days of boat ramp access at an automated pay station, said Martin J. Paventi III, the Area II county parks and recreation manager.
Because of a budget crunch, Pasco County recently began charging a minimum of $5 a day to use the launching ramp at the riverfront park at 1119 Baillies Bluff Road.
The pay station accepts currency, much like a soft drink or candy vending machine, but not credit or debit cards. It does not give change.
The county would have to pay for additional telephone lines to allow electronic transactions at the pay station, Paventi said.
Once the correct amount is fed into the machine, the pay station issues a receipt. The visitor must display the receipt on the dashboard of a tow vehicle; it must be visible through the front windshield, Paventi said.
Two signs near the device explain the procedures, Paventi said.
The county also offers the option of a $50 annual pass, which can be purchased at the Holiday Recreation Complex, 2830 Gulf Trace Blvd.
The permit has to be displayed on the dashboard of a vehicle, too, when the vehicle is parked at Anclote River Park.
Violators who don't buy a daily pass or annual permit, or don't display them properly, face a $30 fine.
