Five people were injured in a collision between a Polk County Transit Services bus and a van in Lake Alfred.
Four of the injured were passengers on the bus. The other injured person was the driver of the van. All have been taken to a hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, said Heather Smith, spokeswoman for the Polk County Public Safety department.
The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. today at 1640 W. U.S. 92 in Lake Alfred. The westbound lanes of U.S. 92 are blocked, and traffic is being diverted to an eastbound lane of the highway.
There were a total of 11 passengers on the bus and the transit service has sent another bus to pick up passengers able to continue.
The van was traveling Route 15 connecting Winter Haven to Haines City. The route takes the vehicle through Lake Alfred.
The highway is expected to be open by about 2:30 p.m., Smith said.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
