TAMPA - A man working on the deck of a freighter dry-docked in the Port of Tampa was seriously injured today when he fell 40 feet into the bowels of the vessel, Tampa Fire Rescue officials say.
The 29-year-old man was placed in a stretcherlike basket and lifted out of the freighter Thor Neptune by crane, authorities say. The man, a crew member and native of Thailand, was taken to Tampa General Hospital.
He was conscious, and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, authorities say.
Six units responded to the call about 3:50 p.m. at Tampa Bay Shipbuilding, 1130 McClosky Blvd.
