The letter from the surrogate of Brian Blair (Letters, Nov. 26) aptly sums up why he lost. Arrogant delusion might be a good way to describe it. Once I read "One of the most popular political figures in Tampa Bay," I thought what mood altering drug is this person on? One of the most cringe-worthy buffoons in Tampa Bay, I could have bought.
This is a man who never met a developer he couldn't do business with, tried to ride roughshod over local environmental issues in order to benefit developers and then tried to claim credit for "saving" the very same board he sought to disband!
No, Mr. Arcuri, your genius politico was not done in by a criminal campaign. Rather it was done in by the criminal lack of common sense your "popular" political figure displayed.
And finally, having popularity among a portion of the electorate who would vote for a potted plant as long as it had an "R" next to its name, is not the same as having popularity among the electorate. But come to think of it, a potted plant might actually be more useful than Blair. Something to think about the next time they think about a candidate for the seat.
