Syracuse moved into the Top 25 on Monday, giving the Big East Conference a record eight teams in The Associated Press' college basketball poll.
North Carolina (7-0) remained the unanimous No. 1 selection of the 72-member national media panel, while No. 2 Connecticut and No. 3 Pittsburgh started the Big East's collection of ranked teams.
Also ranked from the 16-member league were No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 11 Louisville, No. 16 Syracuse, No. 17 Villanova, No. 20 Georgetown and No. 25 Marquette.
The rest of the top 10 was Duke, Gonzaga, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Texas, Purdue and Tennessee.
UCONN 79, DELAWARE STATE 49: Reserve forward Gavin Edwards scored 17 points to lead a balanced offense as No. 2 Connecticut (7-0) beat Delaware State (1-9).
Jerome Dyson had 15 points for the Huskies, while Hasheem Thabeet added 10.
SYRACUSE 86, COLGATE 51: Paul Harris had 22 points and No. 16 Syracuse (7-0) celebrated its first appearance in the national rankings in more than a year with a win against Colgate (2-3).
WISCONSIN 74, VIRGINIA TECH 72: Trevon Hughes hit a leaning floater in the lane with 0.9 seconds left and Wisconsin (6-1) survived a furious rally by Virginia Tech (4-3) to win in the opener of the 10th Annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
Women
RUTGERS 64, TEMPLE 60: Epiphanny Prince scored 25 points and Kia Vaughn had 10 points and eight assists to help No. 15 Rutgers (3-2) snap a two-game losing streak and rally past Temple.
