TAMPA - A college baseball doubleheader featuring the University of South Florida against Miami and Florida playing Florida State will be held March 2, 2010 and March 1, 2011 at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home of the New York Yankees.

"It's going to be a great night for college baseball in Tampa," USF coach Lelo Prado said. "It should be a College World Series atmosphere with four great teams.

"I want to thank the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission for making this possible. Without them, this would not happen."

Rob Higgins, Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, said he hopes this could become an annual event and remain "in the community for a long time."

"We've been working with the Yankees for quite some time to bring another premier event to our community," Higgins said. "To have the 'Big Four' to start the season here is truly monumental. We hope it's a prelude to Omaha for the four programs."

The Florida Four baseball event is the latest in a long list of premier sporting events brought to Tampa by the Sports Commission. Past events include: the 2007 ACC tournament and 2008 NCAA first- and second-rounds in men's basketball and the 2008 Women's Final Four.

Upcoming events brought to Tampa by the Sports Commission: Saturday's ACC football championship between Virginia Tech and Boston College, the 2009 SEC men's basketball tournament, the 2009 NCAA women's volleyball championship, the 2012 NCAA Frozen Four and the 2015 NCAA Women's Final Four.
