NEW PORT RICHEY - Some Progress Energy customers were without power this morning in parts of the city, but service has been restored, said Progress Energy spokeswoman Sarah Varga.
City police were notified of the outage about 6:45 a.m., and crews from the energy company quickly began working to restore power. Varga said she was notified at 7:30 and power was back on by 8:15 to the 200 customers affected.
Gulf High School was among the customers whose power was interrupted. Also affected were traffic lights at Gulf Drive and U.S. 19 as well as Cross Bayou Boulevard and U.S. 19, police said.
A line was knocked down on Beechwood Drive in the Tanglewood Terrace subdivision, said Varga, who didn't know the cause.
Cold weather, however, was not a contributor to the outage, she said.
