The wedding is little more than a week away, but Gov. Charlie Crist still hasn't picked up the 18-karat white-gold bands created by St. Petersburg jeweler Hien Nguyen.
"You know how men are," Nguyen said Wednesday. "They say they will come by and pick up and then they don't."
Nguyen, who also designed the sapphire and diamond engagement ring worn by future first lady Carole Rome, said there are diamonds on both bands, but he wouldn't say how many and wouldn't provide a photo. He said Crist and Rome gave him ideas for what they wanted, and the rings match her engagement ring.
Nguyen, 57, learned the art of jewelry-making in Vietnam from his parents. He opened the Gold & Diamond Center in downtown St. Petersburg in 1983 and moved to the current location in the Northeast Shopping Center 15 years ago. He said Crist is the most famous person he has designed jewelry for.
The Dec. 12 nuptials will be held at First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. A reception will follow at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort.
