TAMPA - Tampa Fire Rescue will have another way to see through smoke and darkness, thanks to a grant from two insurance companies.
Wachovia Insurance Services and Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. on Friday will present a combined $10,000 grant to the agency to purchase a new thermal-imaging camera.
Called the T3Max and manufactured by Bullard, the camera's technology allows firefighters to see heat sources such as electrical equipment. It also enables firefighters to gauge the heat of a fire through the depiction of different colors.
The new camera will be the ninth used by Tampa Fire Rescue, officials said. Recruits will train on the technology Friday at the Tampa Fire Academy.
