I see the solution to the auto industry problem, and it would fix strained finances for all allied businesses up and down the line. People who build cars should cut their own wages by 25 percent.
This is not a new idea. Millions of workers are already in a take-less mode or have lost their jobs altogether. Why haven't the car makers followed?
Unions? Truth is, not one of those workers couldn't get by on a lesser weekly paycheck. The old adage, "a half loaf is better than none," is appropriate here.
High wage earners have become complacent. They need to do the right thing and share in fixing the problem. It's a better choice than standing in the unemployment line or the food line.
Heck, I might even up-grade my 13-year-old family sedan and 19-year-old pickup. The whole country would prosper.
