LITHIA - With four minutes left, Bloomingdale saw its 1-0 advantage against Newsome slip away in the form of a Liz Haumschild goal. It seemed deflating, as a match that had belonged to the Bulls appeared to have slipped away.
However, Kara Buono scored on a final-minute free kick from 30 yards out to seal a 2-1 win for the visiting Bulls.
"I thought we were definitely going to go to a tie," Bloomingdale coach Sue Peet said. "I kept telling them to keep putting things on frame and we'll go from there."
Bloomingdale struck first in the opening half as Caitlin Lavigne sent a laser on a free kick from 25 yards out over the heads of the Wolves' defenders and to the right of Newsome keeper Hannah Rainey into the back of the net.
Rainey was seeing her first time in net for the Wolves in more than a year, with starting goalkeeper Kendall Graham watching from the sideline in a wheelchair after having an emergency appendectomy Monday.
The Wolves evened the score with a little more then four minutes left.
"I was kind of frustrated because I thought we kind of let up there a little at the end," Peet said. "But these are great lessons, every game you play is a lesson."
The Bulls had only three shots on goal, including the two goals off the free kicks.
