CARROLLWOOD - Holiday lovers can get into the spirit of the season with a collection of events at the Carrollwood Cultural Center this month.
The Fanfare Concert Winds, a 60-piece concert band, will hold the Holiday Pops concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Carrollwood Cultural Center.
The band, made up of professional musicians, local amateurs and Hillsborough Community College students, will perform a program of contemporary holiday pieces, including "The Eighth Candle," by Steve Reisterer, and "Whisper to Their Souls," by Samuel Hazo. Plus, they will play music from "The Polar Express," "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
The cultural center's community band and chorus will perform holiday tunes at 4 p.m. Dec. 20. The band is made up of community volunteers ages 15 to 92.
The center is also hosting a couple of holiday workshops for children. Saturday's activities include card printing, cookie decorating and making decorations. On Dec. 13, children will make gift boxes, candy and crafts. Both workshops run from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. and are aimed for ages 6 to 12.
"It's a great opportunity for parents to drop their children off for a couple hours and then get some holiday shopping or other errands done," said Helen Michaelson, the workshop's director. "All the while, the children are making some fun items for the holidays."
