DADE CITY - A pedestrian crossing a poorly lit section of U.S. 301 was struck by a car and killed Wednesday evening, police said.
About 6:15 p.m., shortly after the sun set, Rex Allen McBee, 56, was walking from his home on McDonald Road to the Happy Days Bar to help hang Christmas decorations, police said.
McBee, who was wearing dark clothing, crossed U.S. 301 into the path of Rhonda Guadarrama, 41, of Dade City, who was driving her 2005 Toyota south in the road's outside lane, police said. She told police she didn't see McBee until it was too late.
McBee was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Derrick Doty, the Dade City traffic homicide investigator, is reviewing the crash. It doesn't appear Guadarrama will face any charges, police said.
