Published: December 5, 2008

Mike Leach has removed himself from consideration for the University of Washington's coaching position, a person close to the Texas Tech coach told the Associated Press on Thursday night.

"He's out," said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the move.

The news came the same day Fresno State coach Pat Hill took his name out of the mix to replace Washington's Tyrone Willingham, who was fired and will coach his last game Saturday.

Texas Tech was working on a contract extension for Leach, who reportedly had met with Washington officials about the opening this week.

RUTGERS 63, LOUISVILLE 14

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Mike Teel threw for 447 yards and matched a Big East record with seven touchdown passes, and Rutgers dismantled Louisville on Thursday night for the Scarlet Knights' sixth straight win.

Tim Brown and Tiquan Underwood each caught a pair of touchdown passes and the Scarlet Knights (7-5, 5-2) set a school record for points in a Big East game, rolling up 671 yards of total offense and sending lowly Louisville (5-7, 1-6) to its worst finish since 1997.

AUBURN: Former coach Tommy Tuberville's job was not in jeopardy when he decided to step down, and he declined several requests from his bosses to reconsider, Athletic Director Jay Jacobs said.

Jacobs said Tuberville's departure after 10 mostly successful seasons was "completely his decision" and that the coach would be leading the Tigers next season if he had not chosen to leave.

TOLEDO: Toledo hired Tim Beckman as coach, selecting the Oklahoma State defensive coordinator to take over its football program.

Beckman has spent the past two seasons at Oklahoma State, where his 14th-ranked Cowboys (9-3) gave up 27 points per game this season in the Big 12.

UTAH STATE: Defensive coordinator Gary Andersen is leaving Utah to become the coach at Utah State.
