TAMPA - Police arrested 34-year-old Andres Trujillo on Thursday night, accusing him of breaking into the home of a man who owed the defendant money and choking him. Then, police said, they found three stolen items at Trujillo's home.
Trujillo, of 7316 N. Dartmouth St., was initially charged shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday. Police say Trujillo forced his way into the home of a man who owed him money. He choked the unidentified victim and shoved him against a counter, leaving a red welt across his lower back, they say.
Officers responded to the call, began looking for Trujillo and found him at his home.
Police arrived to find a 1989 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Trujillo that had the steering column ripped apart. The truck, police said, was reported stolen in July.
When they checked around the yard, police found a Kawasaki all-terrain vehicle and a Dixie Chopper lawnmower. Both were reported stolen out of Hardee County, police said. Trujillo told officers he bought the ATV and the lawnmower but that he knew they were stolen because they were so cheap.
Inside the truck was a box of .22-caliber bullets, police said. Since Trujillo is a convicted felon, having been found guilty in 2005 for possession and sale of heroin, he additionally was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition.
Trujillo remained in the Orient Road Jail this morning, charged with burglary, battery, three counts of grand theft and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Bail was set at $21,500.
