Calendar Proceeds To Benefit Special Needs Children

Tampa - A local photographer hopes her pictures of special-needs children will grant their dreams of having a playground redesigned with their particular abilities in mind.

Annie Agarwal said all proceeds from "The Dream Calendar" will benefit Clouds of Hope, a nonprofit organization based in Temple Terrace that provides support for families of children with life-altering illnesses.

The nonprofit's goal is to rebuild two playgrounds in the Temple Terrace area as "adaptable playgrounds" for children with health concerns, such as the inability to form blood clots. The playgrounds would be geared toward children ages 2 to 12 and have special equipment, such as a rubber ground covering.

Agarwal assembled the calendar with the help of business and community sponsorships. It depicts 12 Bay area children with conditions such as autism, Down's syndrome, cancer and blood diseases. The family of each child received a free portrait session and free enlargements, Agarwal said.

The photographer and some of the children will promote the calendar at the International Christian Bookstore in the Sherwood Forest Shopping Center, 10919 N. 56th St., until noon today.

The calendar, which costs $9.35, also can be purchased online through Agarwal's Web site. Visit http://www.annieagarwal.com/Dream/.
