LAND O' LAKES - Gators line coach Tom Carter bestowed the ultimate compliment upon Land O' Lakes offensive/defensive lineman Christian Renner. He called Renner the school's second-best defensive lineman behind Mike Murray, who played for the Gators two decades ago.
Friday, Renner became the fourth Gator to be selected to play in the North-South FACA (Florida Athletic Coaches Association) All-Star Football Game.
Renner was extended the invitation by former Pasco and current Lynn Haven Mosley High coach Perry Brown. Brown, who led the Pirates to a Class 3A state title in 1992, is the coach of the North squad.
"Christian's worked hard the last two years and loves the game," Carter said. "He's very much a student of the game. He watches film, studies tendencies."
Renner joins a list of former Land O' Lakes players that includes Trevor Lansford (1992), Caz Piurowski (2005) and Devlin Robinson (2006).
This season's game will be played Dec. 23 at Lakeland High's Bryant Stadium.
