MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - For the second time in three seasons, the University of South Florida likely will play in an inaugural bowl game, as the Bulls appear headed to the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl.
St. Petersburg Bowl executive director Brett Dulaney will attend tonight's USF game at West Virginia, where he is expected to extend an official invitation to the Bulls. Dulaney could not be reached for comment Friday.
The most likely opponent for the Bulls (7-4) is Memphis (6-6), although there still is a small chance it could be East Carolina (8-4).
Tuesday, when asked about the possibility of playing in the St. Pete Bowl, USF quarterback Matt Grothe said, "It will be like playing another home game."
Pairing teams from the Big East and Conference USA, the St. Petersburg Bowl is Dec. 20 at 4:30 p.m. at Tropicana Field. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.
USF will be playing in its fourth consecutive bowl game.
