A Plant City teen was killed and three others injured in a collision early Sunday when one car ran a stop sign and slammed into another car in the intersection of Rogers Road and U.S. 92.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Juan Sanchez, 18, died at the scene of the accident that occurred about 12:25 a.m.
Ariel Laboy, 17, a passenger in the car driven by Sanchez, received what the highway patrol said were critical injuries. Another passenger, Samantha Wood, 18, was seriously injured, the FHP said.
The accident occurred when Eric Layton, 19, was driving his 2001 Toyota Celica south on Rogers road.
He failed to stop at the intersection with U.S. 92, the FHP said.
Layton also received critical injuries. All three of the injured teens were taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital.
Layton's car hit the right rear of the 2006 Ford Mustang driven by Sanchez, the accident report said.
The collision sent both cars off the road where the Mustang hit a street sign, construction barricades and a tree.
Both vehicles continued until they hit a house, the highway patrol said.
Alcohol did not play a role in the accident, the report said. The accident remains under investigation.
None of the teens was wearing a seatbelt, the report said.
