When Gregory Andre Belmer went to rob a home at 3303 North Lakeview Drive deputies say he brought along something unusual.
A 4-year-old boy.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday, Belmer and two juveniles – whose names were not released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office – arrived at the North Lakeview Drive home in Belmer's Chevrolet van with the intent of burglarizing it, according to a criminal report affidavit.
This is what happened next, according to the report:
Belmer, 19, of 4803 37th St N. in Tampa, waited in the van as the two juveniles entered the residence and began removing property, worth a total of $2,950. Deputies arrived on the scene at 12:15 a.m.
Belmer and his co-defendants were arrested and deputies found a 4-year-old boy in the van. The child did not belong to Belmer or his codefendants and was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
A sales representative for Vector Marketing according to jail records, Belmer was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, third degree grand theft, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child abuse.
On probation for a 2007 cocaine charge, Belmer is being held at the Orient Road Jail with no bond set.
