TAMPA - The University of South Florida (7-5) will play Memphis (6-6) in the inaugural magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl, Dec. 20 (4:30 p.m., ESPN2) at Tropicana Field.
This will be the fifth meeting between the former Conference USA rivals with the series tied at 2.
Coached by Tommy West, the Tigers have had to use three different starting quarterbacks because of injury. Memphis started the season 0-3, but rallied to earn a fifth bowl berth in the past six seasons.
USF and UM had two common opponents this season - UCF and Louisville. USF defeated UCF 31-24 in OT, while UM lost to UCF 28-21. Both teams lost to Louisville - USF 24-20 and UM 35-28.
