TAMPA - The morning after the finale of "The Amazing Race 13," winners Nick and Starr Spangler told the CBS "Early Show" that the right balance of "luck, strength and skill" helped them win.
The brother-sister team took home the $1 million prize in the race, which was run over the summer. Teams traveled nearly 40,000 miles in 23 days.
"You need a teammate that you can trust, one you can push and pull with," Nick told host Harry Smith today. Nick, 22, is currently appearing on Broadway. Starr, 21, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, said she couldn't have competed with anyone else.
Second place team Tina and Ken Greene may not have won the money, but they patched up their fractured marriage.
"We're doing all right," Ken told Smith. "We knew it would make or break our relationship, and it fortified it. We had our moments, but it bonded us and made us stronger together."
Tina Greene owns a Tampa-based firm that recruits executives in the medical and pharmaceutical industry.
Ken is a former NFL player and college football coach who has been working as a contractor in San Diego. The couple split up nine months before "Amazing Race" was taped, but they apparently have since reunited.
Also on the "Early Show" were third-place team members Andrew Lappitt and Dan Honig, college buddies known for getting lost and confused during many of the "Race" challenges. When Smith called them "the worst team ever," they corrected him. "We are the most awesome team," Lappitt said.
The mother-son team of Toni and Dallas Imbimbo, who were last seen stuck in Russia, weren't on the final episode. But they did make it back home.
In media interviews last week, Dallas, who had lost their money and passports when he left a travel bag in a cab, said the passports were turned in to the U.S. Embassy the next day, but it was too late for them to get to the finale finish line.
Dallas also confirmed that his romance with Starr is still on. "We've been dating pretty much since the show ended for about six months now," he said.
