TAMPA - The Outback Steakhouse in Palma Ceia is closed for today while the restaurant does safety checks after a fire outside evacuated the building during lunch, a manager said.
It will reopen for lunch at 11 a.m. Tuesday, a company spokeswoman said.
Tampa Fire Rescue District Chief Toby Hart said that what appears to have been a trash fire started about 12:41 p.m. today in the alleyway between the restaurant at 3403 Henderson Blvd. and another building.
The restaurant was evacuated as a precaution, but there was no damage to the building, manager Luis Carbonell said.
Firefighters and police closed Henderson between West Horatio and West De Leon streets for about a half hour while extinguishing and investigating the blaze. No one was injured.
Carbonell said the restaurant is ensuring everything is working properly in the kitchen and other areas before reopening. Carbonell said earlier today that he expected the restaurant to be open for dinner, but the spokeswoman said the restaurant will reopen Tuesday.
