TAMPA - Tania Regidor has spent the past two days shouting at various trees in her Egypt Lake neighborhood.
Her calls have been for naught, as the tame macaw she is trying to coax down from a tree stubbornly refuses to listen.
"Chiquita," Regidor called out to the bird, "come see Papito."
Papito is Chiquita's brother.
Chiquita escaped from its owner Friday while it was being fed, Regidor said.
The bird flew from tree to tree over the weekend, a little higher each time.
Regidor said she heard loud squawks before dawn. Then she saw the gold-and-blue bird in a tree in the 2800 block of Lorraine Avenue.
The owner, who has cancer and just finished chemotherapy, is upset, Regidor said. She has hand-fed Chiquita and Papito since they were babies, so Chiquita doesn't know how to live in the wild.
Regidor has received e-mails and phone calls offering help but has yet to receive any.
