ST. PETERSBURG - Dozens of parents, students and faculty members at Rio Vista Elementary gathered for a Save Our School rally this morning.
They held signs and chanted "Save Rio Vista" for several minutes.
Rio Vista is one of five schools in Pinellas County that may be forced to close next year as the result of a $40 million budget shortfall. The other schools are Palm Harbor Elementary, Kings Highway and North Ward in Clearwater and Gulf Beaches Elementary in St. Petersburg.
Rio Vista is "A" rated, and parents there can't understand why school leaders picked that school. School board members held a workshop last week to discuss the situation, and they plan to discuss it again at Tuesday's school board meeting.
A final vote on the closure issue is expected in January.
