TAMPA - Saturday's ACC Championship Game between Virginia Tech and Boston College drew an actual attendance of 27,360 to Raymond James Stadium, according to figures from the Tampa Sports Authority.

And thousands of those were not paying customers.

Game organizers announced 53,927 tickets were "sold and distributed" in the aftermath of Virginia Tech's 30-12 victory against Boston College.

Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, said 30,000 tickets were sold locally. The schools were given 20,000 tickets, but sold only 5,000.

Higgins said the unused tickets were given to 80 local charities. Additionally, local volunteers for Super Bowl XLIII were contacted and offered four free tickets each.

Tampa is scheduled to host the 2009 ACC Championship Game. The game goes to Charlotte, N.C. - where 75 percent of the ACC membership is within six hours of driving time - in 2010 and 2011.
