NEW PORT RICHEY - A 22-year-old man was at the drive-up ATM Monday night when a car pulled up behind him and the driver walked up to his car and pointed a black revolver at his left shoulder, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report.
"Give me your money," the man ordered.
Marc Strojnowski didn't comply and instead hit the accelerator.
As Strojnowski turned around in the parking lot, he noticed the suspect's vehicle back up and head north on Madison Street in New Port Richey, according to the report. Strojnowski followed, but the would-be robber must have noticed him and tried to shake him off by turning off his headlights and driving down neighborhood streets, according to the report.
Finally, the driver pulled over and ran away. A passenger in the car got out and jumped into the driver's seat and drove away with Strojnowski still on his tail until a deputy stopped the car, the report states.
According to that man, the first driver pulled up at the bank at 5923 State Road 54 around 10:45 p.m. and tried to rob Strojnowski with a "toy gun." When they were fleeing, the original driver pulled over and told his friend, "I'm going to run."
Deputies later learned the original driver was Vincent Neil Terranova and arrested him at his home early Tuesday morning.
Terranova, 23, also told deputies it was the second driver who tried to rob the ATM customer with a fake gun, the report states.
The case is under investigation, according to sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll.
A gun was not recovered so it's not known whether it was real, Doll added.
Terranova, of 4710 Deer Lodge Road, New Port Richey, now faces charges of attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $155,000.
