TAMPA - A second victim in a house fire Monday has died, according to Tampa Fire Rescue officials.
Willie Bynes, 68, died this morning at Tampa General Hospital. His granddaughter Latoya Williams-Jones died Tuesday.
Bynes and Williams-Jones were injured Monday morning when their house caught fire and they were unable to break through the burglar bars on their windows.
Also injured in the fire was Williams-Jones' grandmother Mary Jones Bynes, 73. She remains at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition as of Tuesday.
Tampa Fire Rescue Capt. Bill Wade said a space heater placed too close to a couch started the fire about 6:30 a.m. Monday at 2905 Chipco St. None of the smoke alarms inside the house had batteries, he said. Neighbors tried to help the residents escape but were unable to remove burglar bars from the windows. They were rescued after firefighters arrived.
