GAINESVILLE - Some people think the time between the conference championships and the national championship game is far too long, but the layoff could not have come at a better time for the Gators.
The Gators are as nicked up as any team, with playmaking WR-RB Percy Harvin's ankle and RB Chris Rainey's groin injury being the primary concerns.
Harvin still was walking with a noticeable limp Sunday but is expected to return to full speed by the time the Gators go to Miami for their Jan. 8 game against Oklahoma.
"I've been assured by the trainers that he'll be full go by the time we go to Miami," Coach Urban Meyer said.
Rainey, who had only one carry in Florida's SEC title game win Saturday, is also expected to be ready for the national title game, though he is expected to undergo offseason surgery.
FAITH IN TEBOW: QB Tim Tebow's statistics might not be as gaudy as last season's, but many people believe he is running the offense better and is a better quarterback this year.
Count offensive coordinator Dan Mullen among that group. When asked if there is any other quarterback he would want running his offense, Mullen gave a simple answer.
"No," he said. "Right now he's the guy. I think there are a lot of good players out there in the country, but he's the one I would pick."
ALL-SEC: Tebow, Harvin, OL Phil Trautwein and LB Brandon Spikes were named first-team all-conference.
