TAMPA - Still undecided between the University of South Carolina and Tennessee, Jarvis Giles decided to sleep on it.
The plan - the first school that popped into the Gaither High tailback's head when he woke up would be the choice. That college was South Carolina.
Without wasting a lot of time, Giles announced his decision at a ceremony in Gaither's library Tuesday afternoon.
"Let's get to the big show," Giles said as he pulled out a Gamecocks hat and tried to fit it over his long hair.
One of Hillsborough County's leading rushers with more than 4,000 yards the past three seasons, Giles verbally committed to Tennessee during the summer but decommitted when Coach Phillip Fulmer resigned.
South Carolina was the first official visit he took.
He will be reunited with former Jefferson quarterback Stephen Garcia, the Gamecocks' starting quarterback. Giles played as a freshman at Jefferson before transferring to Gaither.
"I think I can bring a lot to South Carolina's offense," Giles said.
Giles is graduating this week so he can early enroll at South Carolina. His No. 1 priority is to put on weight. Currently at around 176 pounds, Giles would like to bulk up to 195.
"The SEC is really brutal," he said.
