More than 100 Pinellas County Sheriff's Office employees are shopping at a Wal-Mart in Largo today to help community children in need.
The goal is to help families registered for the Sheriff's Christmas Sharing Project, designed to provide for families during the holiday season.
Today's shopping spree began at 6:30 a.m. at the Wal-Mart at 1111 Missouri Ave. N.
"For the most part, the kids are asking for clothing, shoes, socks, their first bicycle -- some of things you take for granted," Lt. Sean Jowell said.
This is the 15th year deputies have participated in the project.
Jowell said the feeling when deputies deliver goods to the families is "awesome."
More than 1,000 families have benefited from the project so far, and deputies are trying to help more than 400 children this year, Jowell said.
