A Lakeland teen was arrested Tuesday, accused of stealing his grandfather's cattle then selling them at an auction, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Christopher Martin Lanier, 17, of Lakeland, has been charged with dealing in stolen property, grand theft of livestock and grand theft.
Deputies say Lanier and several other people removed the cattle from a pasture on West Socrum Loop Road in north Lakeland on Nov. 18.
The people with Lanier did not know the cattle were being stolen, sheriff's spokeswoman Donna Wood said in a statement. They thought that Lanier's grandfather was releasing the cattle to Lanier, Wood said.
The cattle were sold for $378 at an auction, Wood said.
Lanier is being held at the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center.
After his arrest, deputies learned that Lanier was connected to the theft of two motorcycles last month from a Lakeland home, Wood said. The motorcycles were found abandoned in the woods near Tom Moore Road on Nov. 29.
