TAMPA - The 2008 hurricane season just ended, but researchers already are predicting another busy season in 2009.
In a forecast issued Wednesday, William Gray and Phil Klotzbach of Colorado State University predict that next year will have:

named storms, compared with the long-term average of 10.

of those are expected to become hurricanes, compared with a long-term average of six per season.
3
of those seven are expected to become major storms (with winds of 111 mph or higher), compared with a long-term average of two per season.
Last December, Gray and Klotzbach predicted:

named storms for the season that ended Nov. 30. (There ended up being 16.)
7
hurricanes. (There were eight.)
3
major hurricanes. (There were five.)
