GAINESVILLE - Now that Florida has achieved its yearly goal of winning the SEC championship, it's time for its players to collect some awards.
QB Tim Tebow was named the SEC's Offensive Player of the Year after leading the SEC in touchdown passes (28), passing efficiency (176.7) and completion percentage. Tebow also threw just two interceptions.
Return man Brandon James was named Special Teams Player of the Year after returning two punts for touchdowns.
The biggest accolade might not come until Saturday, as Tebow again was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Tebow's performance in Florida's 31-20 win over Alabama appears to have improved his chances of becoming just the second player to win two Heisman trophies.
"It's a tremendous honor for Tim to be invited back to the Heisman Trophy presentation in New York City," Coach Urban Meyer said in a statement."This is a great achievement and a reward for the fantastic season he has had in leading his teammates to the Southeastern Conference title and a berth in the BCS National Championship Game."
