Mark Damond Thomas set clothes on fire in his bedroom closet and left, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
Thomas was arrested at 4:04 p.m. Wednesday. He was charged with first-degree arson.
About 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Thomas was leaving the house at 2621 E. 32nd Ave. in Tampa when he dropped a lighter, Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Bill Wade said. Another man who lives at the home "told Thomas, 'Hey, you dropped your lighter,' " Wade said. Thomas picked up the lighter and left.
Within seconds, the 27-year-old man who told Thomas about the lighter saw smoke coming from Thomas' bedroom.
"He went into the room, saw the clothes on fire in the closet, picked up those burning clothes and put them in a bathtub to extinguish them," Wade said.
The house wasn't damaged.
The 27-year-old man, who isn't being identified, had minor burns on his arms.
Thomas, 42, remains in Orient Road Jail today. His bail has not been set.
