NEW PORT RICHEY - One of three teenagers accused in the March beating of a 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend is expected to plead guilty this afternoon.
Christopher Cutugno, 18, is charged with armed burglary and aggravated battery. Authorities say he and Spencer Clayton broke into Joshua Sayers' house at 9015 Collage Lane in Port Richey and beat Sayers and Jordan Rennie with a bat.
Sean Broderick, 18, drove the duo to and from the attack, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Rennie's jaw and nose were broken, her left eye socket was shattered and her cheekbone was crushed. Sayers' hand was broken. Cutugno pointed a .45-caliber handgun at the couple and shot Sayers' dog before leaving, police said.
Cutugno's case is set for a downward departure hearing and plea at 1 p.m. in front of Circuit Judge Jack Day.
A downward departure means Cutugno's attorney plans to ask Day to sentence his client to something less than called for by state guidelines.
Broderick's case is set for a hearing Wednesday.
