Lakeland - The lure of $50 gift cards drew early birds to the Lakeland Police Department's first Gun Buy-Back this morning.
Police said participants began arriving at Northwest Park two hours before the event's 9 a.m. start. Hundreds of guns had been collected by mid-morning.
Firearms were accepted with no questions asked, and gift cards were available on a first-come-first-served basis.
The event continues until 2 p.m. at the park, 108 W. Third St. It is being funded by donations, as well as money seized in criminal cases, police said.
