ORLANDO - The Tallahassee North Florida Christian defense limited Fort Meade to 217 yards to take a 17-7 victory in the Class 1A state championship game Friday night at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
Cody Ledford scored on a 3-yard run with 8:16 left in the game to give the title to North Florida Christian (10-2).
Fort Meade (12-2) got its lone score with 7:56 left in the third quarter when quarterback Rumeal Carlton hit Treon Howard for a 43-yard TD pass. The Miners had four turnovers and 90 yards in penalties.
The first North Florida Christian score was on a 1-yard Keith Carter run which capped an 11-play, 90-yard drive with 48 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Eagles, who finished second in the state the last two years in 1A, have six state titles. The previous crowns came in 1996 and 1998-2001.
Jupiter Chr. Romps In 1B
Quarterback Marshyl Rothman ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, and teammate Will Powers had 136 yards and two TDs on 15 carries as Jupiter Christian capped a perfect season by romping past South Daytona Warner Christian 49-14 for the Class 1B state title Friday afternoon at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
Rothman added a 5-yard TD pass to Cobie Graham late in the first half as the Eagles (14-0) built a 35-7 lead by halftime.
Breon Allen led Warner Christian (12-2) offensively with 11 carries for 73 yards and a 2-yard TD run.
Jupiter Christian won its second straight - and second overall - 1B title, having beaten Tallahassee FAMU 27-14 last year.
