POMPANO BEACH - By the end of his freshman year, Kenny Boynton had already received a letter from University of Florida men's basketball coach Billy Donovan, among many other prominent Division I schools.
As a sophomore a Blanche Ely High, he was signing autographs and had pro athletes such as Alonzo Mourning attending his games. That same school year, Boynton said a sports agent contacted his parents with an offer to play for a pro team in Argentina. His parents said no.
Welcome to the life of an standout recruit.
Boynton has attended elite camps and tournaments. Now a senior at American Heritage School in Plantation, Boynton is the No. 8 ranked player in the country. In October, he committed to the University of Florida.
Boynton carried a 3.7 grade-point average as a junior and earned more than 1,000 community service hours. He comes from a church-going family.
"We're very family-oriented," said Donna Boynton, Kenny's mother. "Very few people are allowed in his circle. We keep this close."
