ORLANDO - Chandler Carr completed three passes, all for touchdowns to Jay Herndon, to lead Jacksonville Bolles to a 49-20 win over Miami Gulliver Prep in the Class 2A state championship game Saturday night at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
Carr was three of six for 94 yards, his touchdown strikes covering 26, 38 and 30 yards to help Bolles (14-0) build an insurmountable 49-7 third-quarter lead.
Stephen Barnett added 133 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.
It was the ninth state title for Bolles, a state best. Eight have come under legendary coach Corky Rogers.
The Bulldogs also won championships in 2A (1986, 1990, 2002 and 2006), 3A (1993, 1998 and 2004), and 4A (1995).
Gulliver Prep (11-2), which was bidding to win its first state championship since 2000, was overmatched from the start.
Bolles scored touchdowns on its first three possessions and went ahead 21-0 on Carr's 26-yard pass to Herndon with 11:40 left in the second quarter.
Bolles had 401 yards of offense.
CLASS 2B: Dennis Hall caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from DeJoshua Johnson with 55 seconds left to lead Pahokee (12-1) to a 21-17 win against Ocala Trinity Catholic to win the Class 2B championship.
The title was Pahokee's third straight and sixth overall.
Hall's touchdown capped a seven-play, 43-yard drive that began with 3:38 left after a 39-yard kickoff return from Vincent Smith.
Trinity Catholic (12-2) had just gone ahead on a 17-yard touchdown toss from Rob Henry to Rafael Ciafardini at the 3:47 mark.
The Blue Devils also earned state championships in 1989 (Class 2A), 2003 (2B), 2004 (2B), 2006 (2B) and 2007 (2B).
