The car of a man found dead Sunday along Interstate 4 in Polk County was found this morning in Orlando, authorities say.
Polk detectives are heading to Orlando to process the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, which had not been seen since Saturday night or Sunday morning.
A man returning from work about 7:40 a .m. Sunday found the body of Dontavious James Griffin about 12 to 15 feet from the road and called 911.
Griffin, 21, of Orlando, was identified through fingerprints, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Eleazer.
Griffin's body was found in a rural area west of U.S. 27. He had been shot.
"He was certainly a victim of what appears to be a very violent crime," Sheriff Grady Judd said Sunday.
Judd said people traveling west on I-4 near mile marker 50 early Sunday may have seen something that would help detectives, such as a scuffle on the side of the road or a vehicle pulled over or broken down.
Anyone with information can call the sheriff's office at (863) 534-6200 or Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-8477.
