TAMPA - Police said they twice Tasered a man who refused to drop a gun and then ran away before attacking an officer.

Officers arrived at 8514 N. Brooks St. on Sunday afternoon in response to reports of people fighting and armed with guns. There, they saw Mario Richardson, 26, pulling a silver gun from the front of his waistband as he walked up to the home, police say.

An officer drew his weapon and ordered Richardson to drop the gun, but Richardson put the weapon in his waistband and ran, a report states. Richardson threw the weapon to the ground and turned to charge the officer, who struck him in the chest with his Taser.

After being placed in the back seat of a police car, Richardson kicked the officer in the arms, chest and face, the report states. Police again used a Taser to stun him.

Neither the officer nor Richardson required medical attention.

Police determined Richardson's weapon was a BB gun.

Richardson earlier Sunday had pulled the BB gun on Dennis Williams, 28, and threatened to kill him during an argument over a female, police said.

Richardson faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, battery on a law enforcement officer and obstructing or opposing an officer with violence. He also was charged with violating probation.

He remains in Orient Road Jail today. Bail has not been set.
