The state says a St. Petersburg police officer's actions in the shooting death in November of 46-year-old Roberto Garcia Lara were the "lawful performance of his legal duties."
Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney Bernie McCabe released a letter today stating the results of a review of Sgt. Karl Lounge's actions.
About 9 p.m. Nov. 16, Garcia Lara exited his home at 6528 12th St. N. and pointed a gun at officers, police said. That's when Lounge shot the man in the abdomen and groin with a rifle.
Authorities were called to the home because an alarm went off. Garcia Lara's wife, Alice, told officers he had threatened to kill himself.
The St. Petersburg Police Department is conducting an internal affairs investigation of the shooting.
