Web Site Lists 10 Deaths Of '08 That Got The Most Attention

Comedian Bernie Mac's death in August generated the most online condolence entries in 2008, according to Legacy.com.

The Web-based guest book today released its "Top 10 Legacies," with Mac logging more than 13,000 comments.

"Mr. Mac's passing this year generated a tremendous outpouring of sympathy and support from fans around the world," Stopher Bartol, president and CEO of Legacy.com, says in a written release.

The top 10 legacies of 2008 are:

1) Bernie Mac, actor and comedian, died Aug. 9. Comments: 13,170.

2) Tim Russert, moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press," died June 13. Comments: 4,630.

3) Hudson family -- mother, brother and nephew of Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson -- died in late October. Comments: 4,270.

4) Madelyn Dunham, Barack Obama's grandmother, died Nov. 3. Comments: 3,900.

5) Heath Ledger, actor and star of "The Dark Knight," died Jan. 22. Comments: 3,290.

6) Bill Keightley, three-time NCAA champion and longtime University of Kentucky basketball team equipment manager, died March 31. Comments: 3,280.

7) Meredith Emerson, hiker kidnapped and killed in North Georgia, died Jan. 7. Comments: 2,710.

8) Richard Wright, pianist, vocalist and songwriter for Pink Floyd, died Sept. 5. Comments: 2,710.

9) Paul Newman, Academy Award winning actor and humanitarian, died Sept. 26. Comments: 2,560.

10) Skip Caray, sportscaster and son of Harry Caray, died Aug. 3. Comments: 2,550.
