LAKE BUENA VISTA - Visitors to Downtown Disney can design custom T-shirts with Disney characters and personal messages in an interactive concept developed in partnership by Hanes Brands Inc. and Walt Disney World.
Shirts cost $20 to $30 and take 15 to 30 minutes to be produced after the buyer makes design selections on devices similar to large-scale ATMs.
Disney altered its Wonderful World of Memories Shop near the Rainforest Café to accommodate the T-shirt creation, which is scheduled for a grand opening early next year but opened a week ago in a soft opening.
Patrons can choose the color of the shirt, select long-sleeved or short-sleeved versions, pick out a character from hundreds of Disney art offerings and add four lines of text.
The printing process is handled by an attendant, and patrons can pick up the shirts at their convenience or have them shipped.
The shop also offers patrons the opportunity to create customized Mickey Mouse ears.
The T-shirt venture is part of the combination of a new vision and evolution for Downtown Disney, the 120-acre shopping, entertainment and dining complex, Downtown Disney Vice President Kevin Lansberry said.
In addition to the customary evolution of new and refurbished shops and restaurants, Downtown Disney in September closed its nightclubs on Pleasure Island and will replace them with entertainment and dining venues that emphasize family adventures.
