NEW PORT RICHEY - County officials were to present commissioners this morning with a list of $1.4 billion in public works projects they say could be started in early 2009 if Congress passes the massive economic stimulus package proposed by President-elect Barack Obama.
County commissioners meet at the West Pasco Government Center on Little Road in New Port Richey.
The project list will be forwarded to the National Association of Counties, which is compiling a roster of prospective projects that could benefit from the stimulus spending, county officials say.
The list of projects includes nearly $700 million in county-level road projects, including $98 million to widen County Road 578 between East Road and the Suncoast Parkway at the Hernando County line.
The list also includes more than $400 million in state highway projects, such as six-laning State Road 54 between the Suncoast Parkway and U.S. 41 in Land O' Lakes, as well as a variety of utility projects and a new landfill disposal cell.
