A Mulberry man accused of taking items from more than 20 cars last month was arrested Tuesday on 41 charges including grand theft, armed burglary and criminal mischief, according to arrest affidavits.
Darin Eugene Akers, 20, of 213 Seven Oaks Drive, Mulberry, was arrested Nov. 15 in Polk County on unrelated drug possession charges, jail records show. He was transferred to Orient Road Jail on Tuesday after warrants were issued out of Hillsborough County for his arrest in connection to the vehicle burglaries, the affidavits state.
He is being held without bail.
A teen who authorities say is connected to the burglaries, Steven McDonald, 18, also of Mulberry, was arrested Friday on charges similar to Akers', jail records show. McDonald is being held on $67,000 bail at Falkenburg Road Jail.
Authorities say a 17-year-old was involved in some of the burglaries, according to the arrest affidavits.
From Nov. 4-6, more than 20 unlocked cars in Brandon and Riverview had music, stereo and other equipment removed, the affidavits state. The total value of the items is more than $7,000.
In one incident, a .9mm handgun was taken and a yellow truck was spray-painted black in a disguise attempt but caused more than $1,000 in damage, according to the affidavits.
